Ruths Hemp Foods Hemp Protein Review

Being allergic to dairy, gluten and not wanting to eat soy due to the health problems associated with heavy soy consumption, I looked into hemp protein as a source of easily digestible protein to help bulk up when working out.
Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised and have ordered 4 more canisters of ruth's hemp protein powder(2 just hemp, 2 with sprouted flax) and will order more of the Maca when I run out as this one contains Maca and it's advisable to only take 5g of Maca per day(1 serving of this has 5g) since it's just an effective energy booster.
The taste isn't bad at all. I mix a scoop of the powder with some unsweetened almond milk, just a bit of fruit and some chia seeds and it tastes good. It does have a bit of an earthy taste, a kick of sorts but it doesn't bother me at all and I'm glad that you don't have to add tons of sugary fruit to cover up the taste.
As far as how it works, the powder is a great meal replacement or another meal if you're trying to gain weight. The powder itself provides 11g of Protein(with the sprouted flax one providing 13g and the standalone hemp powder one providing 15g) and they all have about 120-140 calories so adding 2 scoops, some milk and some fruit and even some nuts is a good calorie boost. It also provides a lot of energy due to the protein being easily assimilated and the maca being an excellent energy booster on its own.
Nutritionally, this thing is a champ with a great Omega 6:Omega 3 ratio(3:1 which is the optimal healthy range) as well as being a great source of dietary fiber to keep the intestinal tract healthy and having many vitamins and minerals(being an excellent source of Zinc and Vitamin E, 2 minerals which can be hard to get in our daily diets). Overall, this a great product that I recommend wholeheartedly and will continue to use for a while.

I love this stuff. And can't seem to find it locally. I toast mine in the oven (~300*). Then bought "Raw Hemp" by Kristen Suzanne to figure out what else I can do with them

I've tried all kinds of hemp powders and this is my favorite. Hemp is a super source of EFA's and the protein is a highly available type due to the amount of different amino acids. It is good for those with animal milk allergies or who are concerned about cruelty to farm animals. And it is also good for those of us who need to avoid the estrogenic properties of ingesting too many soy products.
Great, so it's healthy, but how does it taste? Well, this hempshake is amazing -- the taste is really great. I particularly like the chocolate. And I'm impressed that although it tastes a 1000 times better than plain hemp powder, it only contains 80 calories and 7 grams of sugar.
As for digestibility, they do add inulin, which is good for the gut, and I don't have any problem with it. However, the high amount of fiber might present a problem for those coming straight from a SAD (standard American diet), so you might want to begin slow with a small drink and work up to the full dose.
In fact, I'm drinking a Nutiva Hempshake smoothie right now for my breakfast. It contains hempmilk (natch), choco hempshake, cayenne, cinnamon, and frozen berries. It is awesome.

This shake is really good. I've tried whey protein shakes and they are just NASTY! The Hempshake Berry Pom flavor is great. I mix mine w/ either Vanilla HempMilk or Vanilla Almond Breeze (the full calorie one).

Rocky Mountain Hemp Hearts Soft Hemp Seeds (454 grams = 1 Pound) Review

Rocky Mountain Hemp Hearts Soft Hemp Seeds (454 grams = 1 Pound)

I stumbled upon Hemp Hearts at a health food store in Wisconsin (Basics in Janesville) and decided to try them out after reading the literature. I love them! I sprinkle them either on my cereal or in my yogurt for breakfast and the energy level I feel is unbelievable! They also completely fill you up so I have lost 10+ lbs in 6 weeks...I should add I am counting calories and exercising daily as well, but net net I give the hemp hearts a huge THUMBS UP! If you tried flaxseed and just couldn't get into them, hemp hearts are for you. They taste nutty and really are doing wonders for my health. Rocky Mountain is the brand we like and Amazon fulfills the orders so what's not to like?!?! I highly recommend them to get your health and energy back on track.

Protein is one of the three "macronutrients" in the human diet. (The other two are fats and carbohydrates.) One major point of difference that sets proteins apart from the other macronutrients is that our bodies cannot completely synthesize proteins. In other words, we need to get proteins from our diet. Proteins are responsible for a long list and wide variety of essential functions in our bodies including the growth and maintenance of muscle, bones, cartilage, hair, skin, and nails. Proteins are also needed to make certain enzymes, hormones and blood. Proteins also help enhance immune function.
One exciting benefit of dietary protein is that it increases feelings of fullness (satiety) when compared to equal amounts of carbohydrates and fats. The result is that we can eat fewer calories from protein and feel just as satisfied as we would from eating greater amounts of carbohydrates. Protein is a natural appetite suppressant!
The Soy Health Claim
In October 1999, FDA approved a health claim that can be used on labels of soy-based foods to tout their heart-healthy benefits. The agency reviewed research from 27 studies that showed soy protein's value in lowering levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "Bad" cholesterol).
Food markets can now use the following claim, or a reasonable variation, on their products:
"Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving of APC Whey/Soy Protein provides 6.25 grams of soy protein (APC Whey/Soy Protein contains a total of 25 grams of protein per serving coming from the combination of Whey/Soy Protein)"
To qualify for the claim foods must contain per serving:
6.25 grams of soy protein Low fat (less than 3 grams) Law saturated fat (less than 1 gram) Low cholesterol (less than 20 milligrams) Sodium value of less than 480 milligrams for individual foods, less than 720 milligrams if considered a main dish, and less than 960 milligrams if considered a meal.

Whey Proteins
Whey protein is a natural mixture of smaller proteins that are derived from dairy milk. APC Whey Protein contains high amounts of essential amino acids that our bodies need every day!
Because of APC Whey Protein's excellent and immediate absorption, these amino acids get into the bloodstream rapidly. Whey protein is rapidly absorbed and for that reason is effective at stimulating muscle protein synthesis (muscle growth) during periods of recovery immediately following exercise.
Time Release Proteins
As mentioned, Whey Protein is absorbed very rapidly. Rapid absorption has its benefits as fast absorption is ideal in the morning, immediately following exercise, etc. However, there are times when a slower, more sustained absorption of protein is beneficial. If and when there is gang to be a long gap between meals or between snacks, time release proteins can be utilized to fuel your body during this time. APC Time Release Protein is a perfect example of a protein product that can help you accomplish this goal. APC Time Release Protein utilizes a unique and precise combination of five different proteins, all with different absorption profiles. This precise combination provides a full spectrum of fast absorbing, medium absorbing and slow absorbing proteins to combine a sustained release for several hours.
