I've been taking this supplement for 6 months now and have achieved an 11% body fat reduction. I don't believe it's due to taking CLA alone, but as fat reduction supplements go, this one seems to help.
Studies have shown that subjects taking 3000mg of CLA a day, showed a reduction in body fat over a 3-6 month period. This was enough for me to add CLA-1300 to my supplements when I started an exercise routine that included 3-5 workouts a week with weights and cardio; a total of approximately 90 minutes per session total. (There are higher potency CLA supplements, but generally much more expensive too - GNC carries most of them.) Dietary changes were minimal, but included taking in much more water, eliminating most process foods and sugar, and limiting my salt intake. During the week I try to eat lower calorie foods, normal dinner and eat nothing past 7pm. On the weekends I relax that a bit, but try to be thoughtful about what goes in my mouth.
So...does CLA work and should you buy it? It depends upon your goals.
I think out of all the CLA products, this is the one to buy, as 2-3 a day will give you optimal benefits. The pills are huge though, and will be tough for some to swallow - even as softgels. As it takes at least 3 months to get into your system to do its job, the expense is a bit high and the benefits are minimal at first. You also need to be exercising and eating the right kinds of things to reap the benefits.
I think CLA is helpful in reducing your body fat over time, when used in conjunction with a regular exercise routine and healthy diet. I don't think it's a miracle, super-fast fat reducer, nor do I think it's what increases your muscle tone - strength training does that and less fat means you see it.
If you want to add a supplement to your routine that will help you reduce the amount of stored body fat your body is carrying, this is a good choice. However if you want something that will 'burn' fat, this is no quick-fix or 'fat burner' per se. It's not a stimulant, but rather a subtle biochemical boost for your metabolism. It will help you to prevent storage of fat cells, but you have to be consistent in taking it and expect slow steady results with effort in and out of the gym.
